What did you base these posts on? (Are they pure memory, from an old blog, personal e-mails, etc.?) I’ve noticed some edits that are your current voice. How much of the non-marked stuff has been revised?

Obviously you’re still writing in a convincing student teacher voice. Next time you take an extended break, can we have guest-blogger Dan Meyer, a 22-yo first year teacher?

You have no social life, the kids are running amok in your classroom, and you constantly feel a thought you could do better.

Sounds like you’re shaping up to be a terrific teacher! Welcome to the world of true teaching, not just showing up to lecture and pass time until your next “comp day”. I dabble in the “real teacher world” myself from time to time, but I have to pull back to spend time with my family and friends on occasion :)

Would you please post a FAQ or some sort of similar guidelines for these posts? Please? The careful bolding and image repitition is not getting the job done.

Yes, six hours of sleep will one day be extravagant. As will weight lifting. But it does get easier! Enjoy, and TAKE your breaks. Year one of BTSA is pure hell. But your second year, you will be able to breathe.

Don’t get discouraged, and don’t give up. It’s best to make the sacrifices while you’re young and you have the energy. Even if you don’t think you have it–trust me, I wish I’d gotten credentialed at your age instead of changing careers at 40.

You will get better, you will get better, you will get better.

And you are probably already much, much better than you think you are. Classroom management is the hardest piece of the puzzle, I think. But it’s why we student teach. :)
