I've found the opposite to be true (spending 6 years in the nyc public school system). That school district had just as much technology if not more than the suburban district I moved to recently. It was certainly easier to obtain new technology there. Smart boards in every classroom, hundreds of TI calcs. TI navigator systems, ect.

I think it is important to include in the discussion urban district classrooms that do not have the unique funding sources that provide access to high end technology, as well as a student body comprised of children with parent(s) motivated and savvy enough to apply to their school and then comply with all the school's requirements (which district school are not allowed).

Additionally, tutoring in front of the class is effective? Such as, "All dummies arise and step forward." The "effective lesson" described is, as far as I'm concerned, overloaded (which you can do when you can create your own school day) and dependent on very high-end technology. Most urban teachers and students don't have access to Smartboards.

You don't need to name drop to create effective lessons. If this lesson is indicative of what this site offers, it won't be useful. You have to understand that the playing field is not level and then work to level it. Arrogance won't sell anything.

"Currently we support the most common file formats – Microsoft Office documents and images. Our multimedia support for movies and sound is nearly complete. Our goal, however, is to support the upload of all file formats (Smart Board files etc.), although a preview/online reading may not be available for some time."

Too bad, my students hand a lot of their work in using ODF. In fact, no assignment is turned in in a format that doesn't offer 100% fidelity with FOSS applications.
