A hidden jewel: iBooks. Thanks to Sean Monroe who neither presented or did anything else except troubleshoot technically, he showed me a tremendous amount activity iBooks is doing with textbooks. Literally making textbooks come alive with real-time flashcards, embedded video/audio recordings and so much more. He has his own book, "But Why?" coming out soon that is definitely worth the 10 bucks.

Seatmate! Well, it was pretty packed in there. Dan's presentation was filled and turning people away.

Michael Serra's talk on Friday was a real treat as well. He talked about Pirate Geometry, his new book. We did a couple of find the treasure activities, one using the cipher polygons, anther was a battleship like game in the rectangular and polar coordinate planes finding pentominos, and a third puzzle activity using some information to make deductions given minimal information about the pentominos. For example, the 4 corners and one edge were called out in the battleship game, can you find the pentomino?

Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to this material.

Dan,

It was great being your seatmate during Robert's presentation. I was surprised how many different ways we came up with to solve what I thought was a straight-forward problem.
Also, thanks for the resources!

I wasn't able to attend the conference this year. Thanks for posting your experiences! As a teacher of a heavily proof based, traditional geometry class, I would have liked to be in Avery's session. I liked hearing all sides!

@gas, that came up later but at the start, like students might, everyone went at it inductively by gathering data.

I enjoyed your solution to the donut problem in the Michael Serra Polygon Potpourri talk. I worked on star polygons which I found pretty challenging as an extension as well. The absolute value was a pleasant surprise. Now I have ammunition when a student says, "When am I ever going to use absolute value?" "Well, when calculating the interior angles of a n-sided star polygon, of course." ;)

You might post the others here for others to enjoy.

I'm looking forward to your posted video. I had to go to another talk and my co-worker gave me the notes from your session.
